RE: simple portable water pump and tank

I bought one of the 45 gallon water bladders from CW and tried it with the gravity feed - Well that did not work for me. I was going to replace my stock water pump in the TT anyways, so I bought a better pump for the TT and bought a few attachments for the bladder and stock pump (Clips for battery, connectors etc.) and there you have it, a bladder with a pump. Works great now. If I can not run my water hose to the camp ground tap water and refill like that, then I use the bladder and pump.

RE: Hole in Battery

Thanks for al the input guys. I may just pick up another one due to the fact the other 3 I have are all pretty new anyways
BTW - For those of you who asked - I was out camping and had some pretty hard rain and water got into the battery holder. I thought I would make a small hole in the bottom to drain the water out with my drill. Well, I guess I pushed a bit hard and went right through the battery case. :S I did not notice until after I got home. The TT had been plugged into shore power for at least 2 weeks cooking the plates of the empty cell and I will assume that the cell is DEAD :E
Off to the battery shop I go......

RE: Hole in Battery

Don't forget to go over anywhere the acid could have leaked with baking soda. No fun a year from now finding out something was rotting away from the acid leak.
Thanks for the tip. There is a bunch of crusty stuff all over some bolts and A Frame were it leaked out.
Suck this battery can not be plugged with something to stop the leak. It was perfectly good, only bought a few months ago.
Oh well, still have another pair to work with for my last trip of the season at the end of the month. I will have to buy another one to pair this other one up for next year.

Hole in Battery

OK OK, this sucks. Brand new 6 volt has a hole in the bottom. It was me who did it by accident. One of the plate sections can not hold water.
My question is, is this battery toast or can I somehow plug the hole and fix it?

Wire Size for Converter

Hey Guys,
I am thinking of replacing my converter that came with my rig with a better one. It came with an ILC Load Center with the built in 45 amp Iota which the IQ4 can not be attached to.
I would like to go up to a high amp converter without replacing any wire size. I currently have four 6 volt batteries (Wife likes power and I hate running out as well) and I charge by generator while out.
I was thinking of the PD9270. With the higher amp converter, would I have to run larger wires or would the stock wires be OK? Could I co higher like the PD9280?
Also, how easy is it to swap out the old converter, ILC Load Center with the built in 45 amp Iota, with a different converter like the PD9270/PD9280?

RE: Looking for Jayco deal

I went to my local Jayco dealer today to price a new Jayco Eagle Travel Trailer,,tongue hitch 328RLS. His price is $800 higher than going on Jayco's web site and doing a build up of my own camper,,this $800 did not contain dealer prep.which is another $400. Any one know of a good dealer that will deal on a new camper,,within 300 miles of Effingham Illinois?,,,,,80 miles east of St Louis Mo
Is that his sticker price or his best price? If it is the sticker, then you should be able to get it way less. I think a good deal would be AT LEAST 15% off the sticker price.
The extra $800.00 is shipping I would think. $400.00 dealer prep - WHAT? Are they going to diamond coat it for you or just wash and clean it? What a rip off. Tell them you will offer 30% less than stick. So if it is $25000.00 then offer them $17500 but deal until you have at least 15% off the sticker (Say $21250.00) Be prepared to walk away if they do not give you what you want.

RE: thoughts on Chevy 3500 6.0L with Jayco 30BHS

Here are the weight specs for the jayco 30BHS:
Unloaded Vehicle Weight (lbs.) 6,435
Dry Hitch Weight (lbs.) 990
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (lbs.) 9,000
Cargo Carrying Capacity (lbs.) 2,565
What is the payload of the Chevy?
What is your Hitch Rating?
With all those passangers and that heavy of a Dry TW, you could get over the limit.
The dry hitch weight will most likely go up to 1200 lbs fast with propane, battery(s), WDH and cargo in the TT.
What is the total weight of your family?
I would suggest weighing the van by itself and then load it up with everything you would take camping and weigh it again. Then see where you stand with payload. Then add on at least 1200 more pounds for the tongue and WDH that you will need.
Need more info please.

RE: Ford or Chevy/GMC

I have the 2008 F350 Lariat and the rig in my sig. I can only speak about fords as that is all I have ever owned.
I live in British Columbia, Canada. I pull through mountainous areas and can only say that I have absolutely no problems maintaining speeds through the mountains or breaking down hill. The Tow/Haul mode is absolutely incredible. Love the interior, lots of room and love the layout. Comfortable as well. This is my daily commute vehicle as well. Rides very nice and is super quiet. The new engine seems strong. I have never had a problem yet with any Ford I have owned (knock on wood)
As with other brands, the MPG sucks compared to the older models without all the emissions cr@p. But hey, as others have said – you wanna play, you gotta pay :)
You’re a Texas man - BUY Ford - IMO

RE: 2009 Jayco 314bhds fair price??

If that is all it is, $500.00, then go with the closer dealer. You will spend that in gas alone :)

RE: Ride Quality w/TT

The TT is a 04 Fleetwood Wilderness, front bed, rear bath. I think it's called "porpoising" ? It's not good driving the Motor capital of the worlds roads. Who would figure? Would the HD shocks and load tires be on a F-250?
If you are referring to the sway motion feeling going back and forth "porposing" effect, either weigh your TW and get more weight there if to low or try going up one link on your WDH.
You will have to do weights to find out about this stuff to help. I did and fixed the "porposing" I had by adding more TW and going up one more link on my WDH
Hope you fix it. I hated the feeling but glad I did the weight and math :)

RE: Water Pump losing prime

Once it is primed it works great. It has a strainer ahead of the pump, then into a SHURFLO accumulator tank.
I just installed the 4.0 Shurflo in my rig and the "manual" says that this model works best without an accumulator tank. Could that be the problem? I am not sure if the 5.7 is the same though.

RE: 2006 F-150 Supercrew towing capacities

I have a 2006 F-150 Supercrew w/ 5.4l V-8. The manual says it will haul 8500lbs. We are looking at travel trailers around 5800 - 6300 lbs dry weight will my truck pull them?
Another question is when pulling a travel trailer, am I supposed to turn off the overdrive or not. Or is that strictly by how much weight the trailer weighs?
This may help you and others out. Scroll to bottom for weights

According to the list, you should be fine.

RE: Jayco webiste does not have 2009 models?

I saw some new Jayco models advertised (e.g. Eagle Superlite 314BHS) but the website does not appear to have them. AM I missing something?
I was also looking for a picture of the new bike rack that apparently comes on the 2009 Eagle 314BHDS.
------------------------
Funny how Jayco said they would void their warranty if a bike rack was mounted on their trailers and then they come out with one in the 2009 models???
Happy trails,
Just curious on this voiding the warranty business? Do you mean on the back bumper?

After I put them in place, I put the TV in neutral just to let it roll onto the chock to where it wanted to be. Then back into park and unhitch.

RE: Towing and Carrying a Boat

Almost! Does it count if my TT is only 29.5'?
I pull the Rockwood 2607 TT, and on my Thule roofrack, I can carry a 14' sit-inside kayak, and a 10' aluminum Jon-boat. I'm going to try to carry an additional 13' sit-on-top sea kayak on top of the Jon-boat, as well later this year.
Thanks for the info. How does everything handle?
I don't, but I have seen lots of people who do over the years. Only of the neatest I have ever seen is the EIDE boat loader Think that is the correct spelling. Basically it is an automatic boat loader, drive up, hook the cable and winch the boat on top. no sweat.
I will be getting one of those boat loaders. They are awesome. So easy to use. Much easy than lifting a 300 lb boat onto the rack.

Towing and Carrying a Boat

Anyone towing a 30' plus trailer and carrying a small aluminum boat on a rack over the bed of the truck?
If so, what are you carrying (boat) what rack are you using and how long is your trailer?

RE: Maximum Bunk Weight

I have an 08 Jayco and the upper bunk has a 300 lb limit.
Check under the mattress, under the bunk and on the sides (inside and out) There may be a sticker stating the limit. If not, as above mentioned, give Jayco a call or email. They will tell you.

RE: Trailer slipped off tongue jack blocks

I use these. The have worked well for me on my slope driveway
That is one on my biggest fears is my trailer slipping off. I have to get the front end up about 3 feet off the ground to level the trailer on my driver which is sloped. I put the little plastic wheel blocks under all 4 wheels plus the Deluxe Wheel Chokes. It may be a little much, but better safe than sorry. :E
What are the "little plastic wheel blocks" that you are referring to?
These are the cheap plastic ones I use as well.
